Online Forum 2020 Series 3

The 3rd Online Forum, “Going Digital: Assuring Quality in Assessment” will be held on 30th September, 2020, 2:00 pm (Jakarta/Bangkok time, GMT +7) via zoom (hosted by the University of the Philippines). This Forum will focus on how HEIs with different contexts and different levels of experiences conduct online assessments, and how QA can better support HEI management navigate the whole assessment process during this pandemic. The speakers will present cases focusing on their home university’s shift to online assessment due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and how quality is assured in the assessment during this disruption. The assessment involves formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments, either formal or informal (e.g. in-class presentation, in-class group discussion, sharing key points from lectures, etc.) are used to identify modifications to teaching and learning activities to improve student attainment of learning outcomes. Meanwhile, summative assessments (e.g. quiz, test, final examination, final year projects, etc.) have to be designed in such a way that students will have a similar experience as face to face assessment. Moreover, the teacher has to make sure that fair and reliable assessments are taking place, while assuring that the achievement of learning outcomes for each course can be measured effectively.

After the presentation of cases, participants will have the chance to engage with the speakers during a Question and Answer session. The goal is to learn from each other’s experiences, discuss the consequences for quality assurance, and bring out good practices.

Presenters include Dr. Patricia Arinto, Dean, University of the Philippines Visayas-Tacloban College & Professor, UP Open University, Philippines, Ms. Petra Oberhuemer, Head of  Digital Teaching Services, Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria, and Dr. Vahid Aryadoust, Assistant Professor, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
